Aftercare for New Client In-Depth Consultation w/ Customized Treatement Best Place To Start in Woodland Hills

The most important consultation aftercare rule is simple: follow the written homecare plan I send you, and pause harsh actives (retinoids and strong acids) for 48 to 72 hours. This visit includes Vera Versa skin analysis, a hands-on customized facial, and a detailed report emailed 48 to 72 hours after your appointment, so your next steps stay clear once you’re back out in the Woodland Hills sun.

0 to 24 Hours: the do’s and don’ts that keep your skin calm

If I did hands-on work in the room, treat the rest of your day like “quiet time” for your skin. The goal is to reduce heat, friction, and anything that stings. Most people leave glowing, but that first day is where you protect that glow instead of accidentally irritating it.

Quick 24-hour checklist: gentle cleanse, moisturize, wear SPF, skip heat and sweat, and don’t add new “strong” products just because your skin feels smooth.

Do this

  • Cleanse gently tonight. Use lukewarm water and your mild cleanser.
  • Moisturize. Hydration helps your skin barrier settle after any exfoliation, extractions, or device work.
  • Wear sunscreen the next morning, even if it’s “just errands.” Woodland Hills is sunny and dry, and UV adds inflammation fast.
  • If you’re stepping outside, add a hat. This is especially helpful if you’re coming from a Topanga hike.

Avoid this (especially if your skin was worked on)

  • No hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or very hot baths for 24 hours.
  • No heavy sweating for 24 hours. That means skipping intense workouts, long hikes, and heated classes.
  • Try to avoid makeup for the rest of the day if your skin was actively treated. If you need it, keep it light and remove it gently.
  • Don’t pick. Even “tiny” bumps can turn into a longer healing cycle.

One scheduling tip I give a lot of Woodland Hills clients: pick a time that helps you stay cool and protected from sun right after your appointment.

24 to 72 Hours: when “harsh actives” do the most damage

This is the window where people accidentally derail results. If you’re excited and you start layering in retinol, glycolic acid, peels, scrubs, or a new acne product, your skin tends to push back. I’d rather have you do less for a few days and keep your barrier steady.

Stick to the simple routine

  • Cleanser: gentle, no scrubby texture.
  • Moisturizer: consistent, morning and night.
  • SPF: daily. Even in October, UV is still UV.

Pause these for 48 to 72 hours

  • Retinoids and retinol products
  • Strong acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic at higher strengths)
  • Exfoliating pads, scrubs, brushes, and at-home devices
  • “Tingling” masks and spot treatments

If you live nearby in Calabasas, Canoga Park, West Hills, Tarzana, or Encino, the biggest adjustment is usually workouts. Give yourself that one day off from heavy sweat, then ease back in once your skin feels calm and normal.

Week 1: how to keep your glow without overdoing it

During the first week, you’re building momentum. Your skin often looks brighter right away, and then it settles into a smoother, more even look when you keep things steady. The most common mistake I see is “chasing” the result by exfoliating too soon.

A good rule for Week 1: if it stings, feels hot, or makes you flush, pause it and go back to gentle basics for a couple of days.

Sun and heat are the big ones

Woodland Hills runs warm and bright most of the year, and that dry climate can make skin feel tight faster than you expect. Keep SPF on rotation and try not to “test” your skin with long outdoor days right away. If you’re planning a Topanga Canyon hike, go earlier, wear a hat, and reapply SPF.

When to restart actives

Most people can slowly resume retinol or chemical exfoliants after 48 to 72 hours, but only if your skin feels calm and there’s no lingering sensitivity. If you were already using strong actives nightly, don’t jump right back to nightly. Go every third night, then every other night, and build from there based on how your skin responds.

Products and habits that protect your post-consultation skin care plan

For at least the first 72 hours, stick to the products I recommend and the routine we mapped out. This is a big reason people tell me their skin keeps improving, instead of bouncing between “good days” and flare-ups.

  • Keep it consistent: cleanser, moisturizer, SPF. That’s your foundation.
  • Don’t mix new products: if you’re tempted to add something trending, wait until your skin is stable.
  • Hydrate on purpose: dry air plus actives can look like “acne” when it’s really irritation.

And please bring your current skincare list to your appointment, including anything you use “once in a while.” It helps me spot duplicates, conflicts, and products that are quietly causing redness or clogged pores.

If something feels off, reach out and don’t wait it out

A little pinkness right after a facial, mild tightness, or light sensitivity can be normal. What I don’t want you doing is guessing. If you notice redness that keeps ramping up, itching, swelling, or anything that feels worse instead of better, message me right away so I can tell you what to stop and what to do next.
