Keravive aftercare: Hydrafacial Keravive Crown Treatment 48-hour tips
By Bird of Paradise Skin Therapy | October 7, 2026
The most important rule after your Hydrafacial Keravive Crown Treatment is simple: keep your scalp dry and product-light for the first 48 hours. This 85-minute scalp treatment deeply exfoliates and clears buildup, then you go home with a 30-day Keravive Peptide Scalp Spray to keep the work going. In Woodland Hills, the heat can make this trickier than it sounds, so the next two days are all about avoiding sweat, washing, and anything that irritates your crown.
Quick reset for the next 48 hours: no washing, no heavy sweating, no pools or saunas, minimal sun on the scalp, and stick with only the gentle cleanser and serum I recommend.
The first 24–48 hours: keep the crown clean, dry, and calm
Keravive works best when you give the scalp time to settle. Right after treatment, I generally recommend treating your crown like it just had a fresh reset. That means no shampoo, no dry shampoo, no scalp oils, and no styling products rubbing around at the root.
Do this
- Keep your scalp dry. If you shower, keep water off your head or use a shower cap.
- Use the Keravive Peptide Scalp Spray exactly as I showed you. Apply it to a dry scalp, then let it air dry.
- Wear your hair loose. Skip tight ponytails, hats, and helmets that trap heat and friction at the crown.
- If you have to be out in Woodland Hills midday warmth, stay in the shade, keep the car cool, and aim for quick errands instead of long stretches outside.
Avoid this
- No washing for 48 hours. Water and cleanser too soon can irritate the scalp and interfere with what we just did.
- No heavy sweating. Strenuous workouts, hot yoga, and long Topanga hikes can trigger sweat and heat that leads to itching and redness.
- No swimming, saunas, or steam rooms. Chlorine, saltwater, and heat are common culprits for irritation.
- No scalp scrubs, clarifying shampoos, or strong actives. Keep it gentle.
A little redness or mild flaking can happen, especially if you already had dryness or buildup. Don’t pick. Let the scalp do its thing, keep your hands off the crown, and stay consistent with the spray.
Days 3–7: washing timeline, heat styling, and what not to do after Keravive
Once you’re past the 48-hour mark, you can usually return to a normal rhythm, but keep it gentle for the rest of the week. Think of this as protecting the work we did at the crown so your scalp stays calm while you continue the spray at home.
Your Keravive washing timeline (simple version)
- After 48 hours: wash with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo. Use lukewarm water and keep your fingertips soft. No aggressive scrubbing.
- First week: skip clarifying shampoos and heavy scalp oils unless I specifically told you to use one.
- If you’re flaking: wash gently and don’t pick. Flakes tend to settle as the scalp rebalances.
Heat, color, and chemical services: give it 7 days
I recommend avoiding chemical color and chemical services, along with frequent heat styling, for at least 7 days or until I clear you. Your scalp is more reactive right after exfoliation, and heat plus chemicals is where I see irritation pop up.
Woodland Hills tip: Because our area stays warm well into September, try booking morning or evening plans for the first few days so you’re not stuck in midday heat and sweating at the crown.
Post-Keravive scalp care products that actually help (and what to skip)
Your take-home Keravive Peptide Scalp Spray is the star here. It’s part of why the Hydrafacial Keravive Crown Treatment is more than a one-and-done appointment. Use it consistently, and keep the rest of your routine boring for a bit.
Stick with
- A gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and lightweight conditioner (keep conditioner off the scalp if you tend to get buildup).
- Cool or lukewarm water on wash days. Hot water often triggers itching.
- A clean brush and clean pillowcase. It sounds small, but scalp skin notices.
Pause for now
- Dry shampoo, scalp cover-up fibers, and heavy pomades for the first few days after you start washing again.
- Harsh anti-dandruff or medicated shampoos unless we discussed it. Some are too aggressive right after treatment.
- New products you’ve never used before. Keep variables low so your scalp stays stable.

Is this normal? Redness, flaking, itching, and when I want you to call
Most people do great after Keravive, especially when they keep the first 48 hours dry and low-heat. Mild redness, a slightly tight feeling, or some light flaking can show up and usually calms down as you get into your gentle wash routine.
Reach out to us if you notice:
- Redness that gets worse after day 2, not better
- Heavy swelling, increasing pain, warmth, or drainage
- Anything that feels like more than “mild irritation”

If you’re local to Woodland Hills in the Warner Center and Topanga Canyon corridor, I also recommend scheduling a 4–6 week check-in so we can look at your scalp, adjust your home routine if needed, and keep the momentum going. I see a lot of clients coming in from Calabasas, Canoga Park, West Hills, Tarzana, and Encino for those follow-ups too.

And if you’re still deciding if Keravive is the right fit for crown thinning, I keep it real. One long-time client put it this way:
