HydraFacial® Glow Aftercare: First 48 Hours and What to Avoid (Woodland Hills facial spa guide)

By Bird of Paradise Skin Therapy | July 10, 2026

HydraFacial® Glow at our Woodland Hills studio is a 105-minute treatment that pairs the patented HydraFacial with boosters, LED light therapy, and a mini lymphatic massage.

HydraFacial® Glow aftercare tips for the first 48 hours at a Woodland Hills facial spa

The single most important rule for the first 48 hours after your HydraFacial® Glow is this: keep your skin cool, hydrated, and protected with SPF. That means no heavy sweating, no saunas or hot tubs, no long sun exposure, and no exfoliating acids or retinoids. In Woodland Hills, our summer sun and dry heat can sneak up fast, so this window matters if you want that fresh, clean glow to actually last.

Your first 24 to 48 hours: keep the glow, skip the heat

Right after HydraFacial® Glow, your skin often feels extra smooth and hydrated. It’s also more reactive than usual. So we keep things simple for two days.

48-hour do and don’t list (the short version)

  • Do cleanse gently and pat dry. Think mild, non-stripping, no scrubby tools.
  • Do moisturize and seal it in. A hydrating serum plus a simple moisturizer is perfect.
  • Do wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. Reapply if you’re outdoors.
  • Don’t do heavy workouts, hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs.
  • Don’t swim in pools or the ocean during that first 24 to 48 hours. Chlorine and bacteria are not your skin’s friends right now.
  • Don’t use retinol, glycolic, lactic, salicylic, exfoliating toners, or grainy scrubs.

If you’re in the Warner Center or Topanga Canyon corridor, timing helps. Get your appointment after your Westfield Topanga errands, not before. And if Topanga State Park is on your calendar, plan the hike for a different day so you’re not sweating and sun-flushing right after your facial.

Makeup is usually fine after a few hours, but keep it light at first. Skip heavy full-coverage products that feel occlusive, and remove everything gently that night.

Days 3 to 7: the “don’t sabotage it” week (sun, picking, actives)

This is the week where people accidentally undo the good work. Your skin looks great, so it’s tempting to restart every active in the cabinet. Hold off a bit longer.

Our rule of thumb: avoid strong actives for 3 to 5 days. That includes retinoids and exfoliating acids. If you’re acne-prone or easily irritated, you often do better waiting the full five.

Sun protection stays non-negotiable. In Woodland Hills, July and August can be intense, and dry heat can make you feel “fine” while UV is still doing its thing. Wear SPF every day, and add a hat if you’ll be outside longer than a quick walk to the car.

And please don’t pick. If you feel a tiny dry patch or a small congestion bump, don’t go hunting. Keep hydration steady, keep cleansing gentle, and let your skin settle.

Hydration that actually helps after HydraFacial® Glow (simple routine)

After HydraFacial® Glow, your best routine is boring in the best way. You want water in the skin, and you want to protect your barrier so that glow doesn’t fade into dryness.

What to use (by type)

  • Gentle cleanser: no exfoliating beads, no strong acids, no “squeaky clean” feeling.
  • Hydrating serum: hyaluronic acid is a favorite because it supports that plump, hydrated feel.
  • Moisturizer or barrier cream: pick something simple and non-irritating. Fragrance-heavy products tend to be a gamble.
  • Broad-spectrum SPF 30+: every morning, even if you’re “just running around” in the Valley.

If you’re commuting in from Calabasas, Encino, Tarzana, Canoga Park, or West Hills, keep a small SPF in the car. The 101 traffic plus windshield sun is real, and reapplying is what separates a two-day glow from a solid week of “your skin looks good.”

Why aftercare matters when you’re paying for boosters + LED

HydraFacial® Glow isn’t a quick rinse-and-go facial. We’re pairing the patented HydraFacial with specialized boosters, LED light therapy, and a mini lymphatic massage. That combination is meant to leave you looking revitalized and feeling refreshed.

The aftercare is how you protect that investment. When clients stick to the gentle routine, they regularly tell us their skin keeps that hydrated, radiant look and they start getting compliments on their complexion.

“The Hydrafacial is my favorite treatment, it leaves my skin feeling refreshed, hydrated, and radiant every time.”

If you want the longest-lasting result, treat the first week like a protection phase. Keep things calm, keep your skin cushioned with hydration, and don’t rush your strongest products back in.

If something feels off after 48 hours, let’s talk (we’re straightforward about skin)

Mild redness that settles quickly can happen, especially if you’re naturally sensitive. What we don’t want is anything that keeps escalating.

Reach out to us if you have prolonged redness past 48 hours, blistering, or increased sensitivity that’s getting worse instead of better. We’ll walk you through what to do next.

Our team’s style is simple: we pay attention, we explain what we’re doing, and we keep it real about what your skin needs right now. As one long-time client put it:

“Monique is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to skin care… She customizes skin care treatment based on your skin’s needs and issues, not a cookie-cutter, rinse and repeat type of service.”

If you’re still deciding, start with what to expect from your first HydraFacial® Glow. If sun damage is your main concern, read HydraFacial® Glow for sun-damaged skin. And if you’re comparing facial types, our Woodland Hills facials guide lays it out clearly.

We recommend skipping heavy exercise for the first 24 to 48 hours. Sweat, heat, and friction can irritate freshly treated skin, and we want your barrier calm so you keep that smooth, hydrated finish.

Light makeup is usually fine after a few hours. Keep it breathable at first, avoid thick full-coverage products right away, and remove it gently that night.

Plan to avoid prolonged direct sun for the first 48 hours, and be extra careful with SPF in Woodland Hills, especially in July and August. Hiking tends to combine sun plus sweat, so it’s best saved for another day. If you do have to be outside, wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and reapply.

Hold retinol and exfoliating acids for 3 to 5 days. If you’re sensitive or acne-prone, waiting the full five days often keeps things calmer.

Stick to a gentle cleanser, a hydrating serum like hyaluronic acid, and a simple moisturizer or barrier cream. Finish with broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning so hydration and glow don’t get wiped out by sun and dryness.
