Deluxe HydraFacial® aftercare guide for the first 48 hours: do's and don'ts, sunscreen, makeup, and activity tips

Right after your Deluxe HydraFacial®, the most important rule is simple: keep your skin cool, clean, and out of the sun. This service includes a deep steam cleanse, the signature exfoliation, extraction, and infusion steps, plus a booster and LED. Your skin is freshly polished and hydrated, so the next 48 hours are about protecting that glow, especially in Woodland Hills where heat and sun can undo results fast.

The first 24 to 48 hours: sweat and sun are the glow stealers

If you remember nothing else, remember this: avoid heavy sweating, steam, and direct sun for the first 48 hours. After a HydraFacial, your skin tends to be extra receptive. That’s great for hydration, and it also means heat and friction can stir up redness or sensitivity.

My go-to 48-hour rule: If it makes you flush, sweat, or bake, skip it. That means hard workouts, saunas, hot yoga, steam rooms, and long hot baths.

Do this the day of your facial

  • Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water when you wash your face.
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ if you’re going outside. Reapply if you’re out for more than a quick walk.
  • Stick to hydration: hyaluronic acid style serums, a simple moisturizer, and whatever post-treatment products I recommended to you.

Skip these for 48 hours

  • Strenuous exercise and heavy sweating. (This is the one that ruins results the fastest.)
  • Saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and long hot showers on your face.
  • Direct sun. In the Warner Center and Topanga Canyon corridor, it’s easy to get more UV than you think just running errands.

A quick planning tip I give a lot of locals: if you’re heading to Topanga State Park or you’re going to be walking around Westfield Topanga, schedule your facial after those plans, not before. Sweat and sun right away can leave you wondering why your skin doesn’t look as fresh as it did when you left my room.

Days 3 to 7: when you can restart products (and when you shouldn’t)

By day three, most people feel totally normal. That’s usually when the temptation hits to “get back to everything.” I’d rather you keep it simple for a full week so you hang onto that hydrated, radiant finish people love after a HydraFacial.

Hold active ingredients for 72 hours

I generally recommend you skip retinoids and stronger exfoliants like AHA/BHA acids and glycolic-style products for 72 hours. The goal is to prevent irritation and dryness. Your skin just got exfoliated and cleared out. You don’t need to chase that feeling with more actives right away.

Keep hands off and keep it calm

  • Don’t pick at your skin, even if you notice a small dry spot or a little purge.
  • Avoid aggressive scrubs, cleansing brushes, and rough towels.
  • Stay consistent with SPF. Woodland Hills sun is not forgiving, and freshly treated skin can show it fast.

Product picks that play nice with Deluxe HydraFacial results

You don’t need a complicated routine to keep your results. You need the right basics used consistently. I’m big on keeping things realistic and affordable, and that’s a big reason people stick with us long-term.

My simple 3-step post-facial routine

  1. Gentle cleanser (no scrub, no “tingle” wash).
  2. Hydrating serum (look for hyaluronic acid, barrier-friendly hydration).
  3. Moisturizer + SPF in the morning, moisturizer at night.

If you’re acne-prone or pigment-prone, this is where smart timing matters. Giving your skin 72 hours before jumping back into actives often keeps you clearer, calmer, and less reactive.

When to text me: normal redness vs “something’s off”

A little pinkness right after your service can be normal. Mild tightness can happen too, especially if you’re not used to professional exfoliation and extraction. Most people are back to baseline quickly and notice that hydrated, refreshed look right away.

But if you’re dealing with prolonged redness, blistering, or severe discomfort, reach out. I’d rather you check in early so I can tell you what to do next based on what you’re seeing and what you used at home.

“Monique never makes you feel bad. She’s always welcoming and ready to do your scheduled procedure and give you lots of information about improving your skin.”

Quick answers I get all the time after a Deluxe HydraFacial®

Can I shower after a HydraFacial?

Yes. Keep it lukewarm and avoid letting hot water and steam hit your face for a long time, especially during the first 24 to 48 hours.

How long do results usually last?

Most people enjoy the glow for a few weeks. If you’re working on acne, congestion, or sun damage, consistent appointments tend to make the biggest difference. I’ll tell you what cadence makes sense for your skin when I see how it responds.
